Don't Let Creativity Die

Creativity is losing its distinction in digital writing.

Data is worshipped. Strategy renders other factors insignificant. Bland, draft-sounding content is accepted, even favored. There is a growing preference for speed and simplicity that removes cleverness from the equation.

But writing is still art. It isn't all about charts and analytics. Good writing combines clarity and cleverness, strategy and creativity. It requires both left and right brain functions.

Strive for simplicity, but add color and music to your writing. Don't let creativity die.

I was reminded of all this the past few days, when I started reading the book, Hey Whipple, Squeeze This (about damn time).

And it has made me fall more in love with writing.
