Passing Storms

We were building a chicken coop at the farm today when it started raining. Strong, heavy, cold. The sky darkened, like it was preparing for evening, four hours too early.

We had to take shelter. We had to take a break because we couldn't continue working in the rain. Huddled in the hut, my husband and my father spent the hour reading on their phones while most of us fell asleep. The sound of the rain, a welcome lullaby.

It's a silent acceptance of nature's power and unpredictability and our inability to continue as planned.

When we find ourselves facing unexpected, unfortunate circumstances, remember that sometimes, all that we can do is to take a break. To accept our limited control against powerful external forces. To instead look for something else to do, or to rest, while waiting for the storm to pass.
