Present and Future
In order to have the future we want, many times, we have to make present-day sacrifices. To save money, we give up luxuries and conveniences. To gain more freedom and flexibility in the future, we need to work hard right now and build our careers.
Delayed gratification is good. It gives us a future of security, independence, and freedom. But does it give happiness or is that taken away from us from today and onwards?
In pursuing that dream life, we must not lose sight of what we currently have. Our relationships—family and friends. The interests and hobbies that fuel our soul. The conversations that stimulate the mind. The memories that we're creating.
As always, there should be balance. Of sacrificing for the future and of enjoying the present moment.
