Strict Only with Yourself
Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself.” - Marcus Aurelius
Protect your values. Live an intentional, disciplined, principled life.
But with others, be tolerant. You don't have control over their behavior. Their actions and decisions. You can't force your values and beliefs on them. They have freedom to live their lives however they want, as much as you have yours.
By following this advice, you can be more in control of your reactions, especially when other people act in a way you don't agree with. You can let things go and not be riled up. You can practice quiet strength.
Be tolerant with them, and strict about how you react.
It doesn't mean you have to be a doormat. If their actions are hurting you or other people, you can talk to them. Or you can choose to walk away, cut them off your life. Those are choices within your control.
